DKS 17 and DKS 16 Series Minilabs at photokina
Revolutionary
‘Generation 3’ Systems Deliver Big Performance from
Small Footprint
 |
COLOGNE,
Germany, 26 September 2006 – The DKS 17 and DKS 16 Series
digital minilabs – arguably the most advanced photo printing
systems available today – are on display this week at the
photokina trade show in the KIS-Photo-Mebooth (Hall 10.2, Stand
A-050 – C-059). Pound for pound and dollar for dollar, these
fully featured, highly efficient “Generation 3” digital
minilabs outperform and outproduce competitive minilabs despite
their smaller footprint, the company said today.
The three DKS 17 Series minilabs pack an incredible amount of productivity
into a remarkably small footprint, according to KIS/Photo-Me –
printing up to 2,000 4x6-inch prints an hour at 350-dpi resolution.
Maximum print size is 12x18 inches. The two DKS 16 Series minilabs
provide similar productivity levels for prints up to 8x12 inches,
the company said. All KIS/Photo-Me “Generation 3” digital
kiosks are warranted for five years or 10,000 hours of operation,
whichever comes first.
Both DKS series feature KIS/Photo-Me’s proprietary, award-winning
MSB HD Exposure System – which increases the LCD pixel count
by 48 percent – for exceptional image quality. There is also
a new easy-to-use operator interface, a Quick Load paper apparatus
to minimize downtime, and a “hub and spoke” architecture
that allows the operation of multiple self-serve kiosks to optimize
productivity and revenue-generation. All DKS 17 and DKS 16 Series
models take up less than one square meter of floor space, KIS/Photo-Me
said, and connect to the company’s new album printer –
PhotoBookPro (see related press release).
“Our new DKS minilabs are designed for the re-emerging photofinishing
industry’s growing needs for quality and efficiency –
compact, versatile, economical units able to produce, or direct
the production of, a range of personal photo products,” said
Thierry Villard, President of KIS/Photo-Me. “We think that
photo retailers will find the image quality, speed and unequaled
autonomy of our newest DKS minilabs very appealing and effective
imaging solutions.”
The DKS 17 Series – DKS 1770: 2,000 4x6-inch prints per hour;
DKS 1750: 1,500 4x6-inch prints per hour; DKS 1710: 1,000 4x6-inch
prints per hour – is designed for high-to-moderate volume
retail photofinishing operations offering prints and personal products
up to 12x18 inches. The DKS 16 Series – DKS 1670: 2,000 4x6-inch
prints per hour; DKS 1610: 1,000 4x6-inch prints per hour –
is a good choice for labs and photo retailers with high-to-moderate
production requirements with no need for printing larger than 8x12
inches, KIS/Photo-Me said.
All five models employ the MSB HD Exposure System – a precise,
reliable 350-dpi resolution LED light source designed and developed
by the company’s renowned R&D program. Its sharpness and
color accuracy exceed that of the company’s DKS 15 Series
minilabs that won the last four DIMA Shoot-Out competitions in the
United States for image quality. The DKS 17 Series and 16 Series
minilabs are manufactured in Singapore to exacting specifications
under an OEM agreement with Solectron Corp.
These “Generation 3” minilabs take full advantage of
the capabilities and benefits that digital imaging provides, KIS/Photo-Me
said, while offering an industry-leading design and the latest,
most innovative features. For example, the “hub and spoke”
architecture of the units allows them to support up to 99 remote
networked kiosks. This means photo retailers can dramatically increase
their volumes and even extend their business well beyond their store
walls, the company said.
Also, the DKS 17 Series and DKS 16 Series minilabs come equipped
with Perfectly Clear™ image-correction technology, plus Eye-Tech
red eye removal and the ICC v2.0 automatic ICC profile application
to compensate for less-than-perfect results caused by the camera
or the camera user, the company said.
Simplicity comes from ergonomically unique paper cassettes that
are both easy to load and easy to install, which minimizes downtime.
So does an optional chemistry extension module that allows the user
to empty effluents, replenish water and swap out concentrated chemical
bottles at the same time. A DKS minilab equipped with both the chemistry
extension module and an optional second paper feeder can run the
entire day without interruption, KIS/Photo-Me said – producing
as many as 7,000 4x6-inch prints, or more than 280 individual orders.
The “Generation 3” DKS 17 Series and DKS 16 Series digital
minilabs are available today. Information on pricing and other product
